People's Housing is all about building more than just homes—we’re creating communities. We turn underused spaces into affordable, sustainable housing, working hand-in-hand with neighbors, local organizations, and volunteers. It’s not just about solving the housing crisis here; it’s about building a model that others can follow to create real change
St. John’s House transforms underused church land in Aptos, California into safe, dignified housing for seniors and single parents with children transitioning out of homelessness. Developed by People’s Housing in partnership with The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist and local partners, it shows how community collaboration can create practical solutions to the housing crisis.
The development will include a small cluster of thoughtfully designed studio and one-bedroom homes arranged around a shared courtyard, creating both privacy and a strong sense of community. By using compact designs and prefabricated homes, the project reduces construction costs and allows housing to be built more quickly and affordably.
Beyond providing housing, St. John’s House is designed to foster connection and stability. Residents will have access to supportive services and opportunities for community engagement through local partners and the church community.
St. John’s House demonstrates how faith communities, nonprofits, and local supporters can work together to create compassionate, practical solutions to the housing crisis in Santa Cruz County.
People’s Housing Foundation is proud to partner with Just Places on New Creation Village; a community-focused affordable housing project developed with Mt. Calvary Lutheran. By working together, we’re helping create a solid foundation for a vibrant community where sustainable solutions meet our community's needs.
People’s Housing is dedicated to building deeply affordable housing without relying on traditional government funding models like tax credits. By leveraging underutilized land, particularly faith-based properties and attracting private investment, philanthropy, and community support, we create small-scale housing solutions that are replicable, community-centered, and financially sustainable.
