New Creation Village is a project at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church that will provide ecologically sustainable housing to very poor people in a supportive environment. It will provide a cutting edge model on how to support human beings and the environment.
Ten to fifteen residents will be housed in cabins and two story buildings built to modern codes with straw bales and other green building techniques. A communal kitchen/ meeting room and bathroom/ laundry facility will serve the six cabins and provide a focal point for community events.
Significant funding for this project is provided by the Central California Alliance for Health.
A local LLC called Just Places, of which People’s Housing is a primary member, will build and manage the project. Other members include a prominent homeless services agency- People’s First, and two Green local Building Contractors: Boa Construction and Buckeye Builders. Our architect is Arkin Tilt, the premier green building designer in California.
The first phase of the project will be to get the permits for the entire project and to build the 6 cabins for 4 people who live in unpermitted cabins presently and two others. Due to the generosity of our architects, contractors and civil engineers as well as a grant from the Central California Alliance for Health we expect to complete this phase of the project with only $235,000 dollarsand we have already raised half of that!
