A New Model for Affordable Housing
St. John's House is an innovative affordable housing project developed by People’s Housing in partnership with Episcopal Church of Saint John the Baptist, Aptos. Our mission is simple: create sustainable, community-driven housing that not only offers safe, affordable homes for low-income families, seniors, but also serves as a replicable model for other faith-based organizations and communities. Significant funding for this project is provided by the Central California Alliance for Health.
St. John's House is a 10-unit apartment complex built on land generously provided by the Episcopal Church of Saint John the Baptist. Designed with community and sustainability in mind, this project features modern, small-scale living spaces along with shared common areas that foster connection and support. With an emphasis on on-site case management and community programs, we’re not just building homes—we’re building a foundation for long-term stability and opportunity.
At People’s Housing, we believe in transforming underutilized spaces into vibrant communities without waiting on slow government processes. By leveraging private investment, philanthropic donations, and local grants, we streamline the development process to deliver affordable housing quickly and efficiently. Our approach minimizes reliance on tax credits or government subsidies, enabling a more agile and responsive method to address the housing crisis.
Our role in St. John’s House includes:
Project Leadership: Overseeing the design, development, and construction of the housing project.
Innovative Financing: Combining private investments, local philanthropy, and bank loans to fund the project.
Community Integration: Ensuring the development includes community spaces and on-site support services, such as case management and life skills training, to help residents thrive.
Model Replication: Establishing a scalable blueprint that can be replicated by other churches and community organizations throughout California.
St. John’s House is more than an affordable housing project—it’s a movement to rethink how we address housing affordability. Our innovative model, spearheaded by People’s Housing, demonstrates that communities can mobilize local resources and partnerships to create lasting solutions without the delays and constraints of traditional funding. By investing in St. John’s House, you’re not only helping to provide a home for someone in need; you’re supporting a scalable blueprint that can be used to solve the housing crisis across California and beyond.
Join us in building a brighter future—one home, one community, one step at a time.
